Schacht

Schacht has many wonderful looms and weaving equipment and I want to feature lots of pictures, so I will have to split them up on separate pages. Follow the link bar at the bottom of this page to see everything.

Shuttles, Weaving Tools, Warping Tools, and Other Useful Tools

Weaving Tools and Shuttles

Weaving SwordsWeaving Swords
Schacht Weaving Swords are designed for Navajo weaving and lend themselves well to other simple tapestry and backstrap looms. The beveled edge on one side can be used to press the weft into place.
16" Weaving Sword $14.00
22" Weaving Sword $16.00
30" Weaving Sword $18.00

Pick-up sticksPick-Up Sticks
To complement the weaving swords, a wide range of pick-up sticks offer just the right tool for the task at hand. All pick-up sticks are double-pointed, made of hard maple and finished with Danish oil.

Beefy Pick-Up Sticks (shown above)
are 1½" wide and come in 3 lengths:
20" $11.75
25" $12.75
30" $13.75

Medium Pick-Up Sticks (shown above)
are 1 1/8" wide and come in 3 lengths:
18" $10.75
22" $11.75

Petit Pick-Up Sticks (shown above)
are 7/8" wide and come in 3 lengths:
8" $8.50
12" $9.75

Stick ShuttlesStick Shuttles
Stick shuttles are excellent for beginning weaving classes, sampling, tapestry and rigid heddle looms. Choose a shuttle that is slightly larger than the width of your warp. Made of maple.
9" Stick Shuttle$6.75
12" Stick Shuttle$7.00
16" Stick Shuttle $7.50
20" Stick Shuttle $7.75
24" Stick Shuttle $8.25
35" Stick Shuttle $9.25

Belt ShuttleBelt Shuttles
This small shuttle has a beveled edge for beating in the weft when weaving narrow bands. Inkle looms, cardweaving, and narrow backstrap bands call for belt shuttles. $9.50

Stick ShuttlesSki Shuttles
These sleek shuttles are made to hold medium to heavy yarns and are designed so that the yarn is wrapped horizontally around the top of the shuttles, leaving a smooth bottom for sliding easily across the warp.
18" Ski Shuttle $32.00
24" Ski Shuttle $34.00

Rag Shuttles

Rag Shuttles
These broad, sturdy shuttles have been traditionally used for rag weaving, though they are also excellent for heavy rug wools and bulky chenilles.
14" Rag Shuttle $29.00
20" Rag Shuttle $31.00

Rug Shuttles (shown above)
This beautiful shuttle is carved from a single piece of hard maple. It's good for medium to heavy yarns. It is 20" long and has a narrow profile. $31.00

Warping Tools

Warping PegsWarping Pegs
are the simplest and most portable warp-measuring tools. They clamp to a table or counter; the single peg placed at one end of the warp length and the pair of pegs placed at the other end, spread as far apart as the warp is long. Use with your own "C" clamps. $19.00

Single Peg $13

Large Warping BoardWarping Boards
are the most commonly used measuring devices. The Schacht warping boards are available in 2 sizes: the 14 yard warping board is one yard across (left), and theSmall warping board 4½ yard warping board (right) which measures a half yard across. To withstand the strain of threads under tension, Schacht tenons the hardwood dowels and presses them securely into the frame.
14 yard Warping Board $105.00
4½ yard Warping Board $6800

Warping Mills
are ideal for long warps. Instead of going back and forth with your arm to measure threads like on a warping board, the warping mill goes around and around which is quicker and less tiring.Vertical Warping MillSchacht has two models: the vertical warping mill sits on a table, and the horizontal warping mill which may be used either on a table or on the floor. Both mills have a two yard circumference, will hold up to 18 yards of warp, and can be folded up for storage.

Vertical Warping Mill
$315.00

Goko Yarn Swift $124
Another way to unwind! This traditional Japanese swift spins easily on its wooden base. Holds up to 8 ounce skeins. Adjustable for skeins with 55" to 63" circumference

Warping PaddlesWarping Paddle
can save you time when measuring many warp threads. This paddle makes it possible to measure up to 20 threads at a time. The slot and eye design alleviates the need to hand pick the cross. The square handle makes it easy to clamp the paddle to a shelf or table. $20.00

Heddle Hooks

Brass Reed Hooks(top left) $5.25

Heddle Hooks (bottom left)
Short $7.50
Long $7.50

Auto Reed - $49

Other Useful Tools

Umbrella Swifts
hold a skein of yarn. You simply unfold the skein, slip it over the swift and push the swift open like you would an umbrella. Swifts make unwinding so easy that you'll save a lot of time, whether you're making balls, winding bobbins, or measuring a warp.

Light Duty SwiftLight Duty Swift
is made of plastic and metal and will hold skeins up to one pound and 60" in circumference. The clamp that holds it to the table will adjust to any angle.
$49.95

Wood SwiftScandinavian Wooden Swift
is larger and heavier than the Light Duty Swift, and will hold skeins up to two pounds and two yards in circumference.
$75.00

Ball WinderBall Winder
A Ball Winder is one of the necessary tools for anyone working with wool. Any yarn can be quickly made into a center-pull ball in minutes. The built-in clamp fits easily onto a table or shelf.
$44.95

Yardage CounterYardage Counter
A useful tool for those who warp sectionally. As opposed to most counters, which read in feet, this one records yards (you can also request a meter counter). The counter will record up to 9999 yards and comes complete with a clamp.$171.00

Spool RackSpool Rack
Spool racks are indispensable for sectional warping and very useful for other tasks as well, such as holding standard yarn tubes and bobbins, or as a place to camp a swift or ball winder. This rack holds 40 4" spools and has a center post that pivots for easy loading and unloading. The center post locks into place during use. Schacht spools are made of cardboard and are 4" wide with 3" flanges.
Spool Rack $210.00
Cardboard spools/10 $17.00

Winding station $251

One stand holds it all. The sturdy winding station is designed to accommodate all your winding tools: ball winders, swifts, and bobbin winders.

* Cone rack for up to 8 cones
* Spool rack for up to 8 spools
