Cranbrook Countermarche Loom

Cranbrook 60", 8-shaft loom.

The Cranbrook loom is internationally recognized for its strength, balance, and superb craftsmanship. It is widely considered to be the finest countermarche loom ever made. The loom was originally designed over sixty years ago by Loja Saarinen, the founder of the weaving program at the Cranbrook Academy of Art. First built by John Bexell and later by his son Bert, the Cranbrook loom was made in recent years by Norwood Looms until Schacht acquired it in 1996. Schacht has continued to enhance and refine the design of this wonderful loom.

The Cranbrook loom is available in 48", 60", or 72" weaving widths with 2 to 8 shafts. Handcrafted of carefully selected kiln-dried maple, the Cranbrook loom is finished with a hand-rubbed penetrating Danish oil finish.

The Cranbrook loom comes ready to assemble in three or four cartons with full assembly instructions, 16 warp packing sticks, 1000 Texsolv heddles, and two lease sticks.

Suspended Tool Shelf
attaches to the inside of the loom frame between the beater and the shafts. It is 4" wide and tilted slightly forward for easy access.

Cranbrook Bench
The Cranbrook Bench is available in three lengths designed for the 48", 60" and 72" wide looms respectively. Made of hard maple, this sturdy and handsome bench has a foot rest on one side and is open on the other. The bench may be set with a flat or slanted seat.
